New online Charity Tax Map welcomed by Treasury Minister
At its Annual Tax Conference yesterday, the Charity Tax Group (CTG) launched the new website.
CTG Chairman John Hemming said:
“The website is a unique tool to help charities navigate their way through the often complex tax landscape, and incorporates a fully-integrated version of the Charity Tax Map. The new Tax Map has the added facility for navigating by activity as well as tax types. By cross-cutting the tax types, the reader is able to review very quickly all the taxes that might be involved in a particular activity. The website also provides links through to the relevant guidance on the gov.uk website.
“This new project has been a major investment by CTG and we are grateful to the Nuffield Foundation who funded the digitisation of the Tax Map and the RNLI, who helped to fund the new website, and to all those who contributed their time and expertise”.
The Annual Tax Conference saw a large number of charities and tax advisers come together to discuss some of the key tax issues currently facing the charity sector. Expert speakers from HM Treasury, HMRC, charities and professional advisory firms joined panel discussions on topics including the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme, the EU’s VAT Action Plan, the Common Reporting Standard and the Apprenticeship Levy.
The Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, Damian Hinds MP, gave the keynote speech – highlighting some of the successes on charity tax over the last year, as well as looking forward to plans for the year ahead.
Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, Damian Hinds MP said:
“This Government is committed to helping charities continue their vital work and make every penny count. This includes working closely with the sector to make the tax system as fair and effective as possible. I applaud the efforts of the Charity Tax Group in creating its new online Tax map and look forward to continued cooperation with the sector.”
Notes for editors
At the Conference CTG also published its Annual Review.
The Charity Tax Group (CTG) has almost 500 members of all sizes representing all types of charitable activity. It was set up in 1982 to make representations to Government on charity taxation and it has since become the leading voice for the sector on this issue. CTG has persuaded successive Governments to introduce a range of tax reliefs and has also campaigned successfully to protect existing concessions, saving charities a considerable amount of money in the process.
