CTG proposal for charitable status
The Charity Tax Group (CTG) is a private company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales. The company is a public benefit entity that, while not a charity, operates for and within the charity sector. For that reason our financial statements use terminology that is recognised in the charity sector and we adopt governance policies consistent with those expected of charities. Our board is volunteer-led and includes members with extensive experience of working in the charity sector.
CTG’s core purpose is to make representations to Government on tax issues facing charities and that will never change. However, we also recognise the growing need to support charities with resources and information to help them mitigate their tax burden and access available reliefs and exemptions. In recognition of this, we have introduced the Expert Insight series, developed practical issues working groups and broadened the level of resources available to charities via our website and newsletters.
The CTG board is proposing to register as a charity to recognise and support the importance of that education and support function. We are also hopeful that charity status will open up new funding opportunities from trusts and foundations, which is important as we seek to diversify our income and ensure the long-term financial sustainability of CTG.
We would like to invite members to a short Zoom session on 28 April 2022, at 16.30, to explain these plans and respond to any questions that you may have. CTG is indebted to the experts at Wrigleys Solicitors for their help in managing this process and members of their team will also be present.
