Scottish Government confirms plans for Apprenticeship Levy
The Scottish Government has published a report setting out how it intends to use the funds generated for it by the UK-wide Apprenticeship Levy.
Because Skills policy is a devolved matter in Scotland, businesses will be required to pay the levy but will not have the same digital account for receiving funds that English businesses will have. Instead, proposals include continuing to expand the Scottish Modern Apprenticeship scheme – with the SG targeting 30,000 new starts per year by 2020 – and a new £10m Workforce Development Fund, which will aim to help employers work in partnership with colleges in creating viable apprenticeship schemes.
