New Shadow Minister for Civil Society confirmed
Following Jeremy Corbyn’s second leadership election victory, the shadow cabinet has been through a gradual reshuffle – in many cases returning ministers to posts from which they resigned earlier this year. The latest round of changes includes the appointment of Steve Reed MP (Croydon North) as Shadow Minister for Civil Society, after Anna Turley MP (Redcar) resigned from her post.
According to a Civil Society article, he has been a strong supporter of charity issues within the Labour party and has been a consistent attendee at charity fringe events at Labour conferences. Prior to being appointed as an MP he led the Labour run Lambeth Council where he consistently promoted an agenda that encouraged greater community involvement in the running of public service. Under his leadership Lambeth marketed itself as the first Co-operative Council.
