Minister welcomes CTG’s “insightful and valuable input” into charity tax discussions
Following the CTG Tax Conference on 28 April 2016, the Minister responsible for charity taxation, Damian Hinds MP, has written to CTG commenting:
“It was a pleasure to speak at your conference and to hear your members’ view on charity tax policy and the wider experiences of the UK tax system. It is always useful for me, and for my officials, be be able to hear directly from representatives of a wide range of charities.”
In the letter, the Minister thanked CTG for its insightful and valuable input into discussions on the Apprenticeship Levy, Common Reporting Standard and the charity exemption to the 45% tax on restitution interest.
The Minister also took the opportunity to reassure CTG members that:
“both of the options put forward by the Commission [in the EU VAT Action Plan] would preserve the UK’s derogations and existing zero rates”.
The Minister concluded by stating that he hoped the existing dialogue between the Government and the Charity Tax Group would continue and strengthen over the remainder of the Parliament and encouraged CTG to continue to share views and concerns with the Treasury.
