CTG writes to new Minister responsible for charity taxation
Chairman of the Charity Tax Group, John Hemming, has written to Jane Ellison MP, the new Financial Secretary to the Treasury and the Minister responsible for charity taxation.
In the letter, he provides a briefing on topical charity tax issues and highlights some of the work that CTG has been doing to tackle them:
- Avoiding unintended consequences for charities in negotiating Brexit
- Acknowledging the critical importance of VAT zero rates and the distortions of irrecoverable VAT
- Ensuring that charities do not face an onerous and disproportionate administrative burden because of the Common Reporting Standard
- Working with officials to make sure that the Apprenticeship Levy is beneficial for charities
- Improving Gift Aid and GASDS to maximise their effectiveness
- Upholding the commitment to protecting the sector’s mandatory business rates relief.
