Working for change
Most people believe that charities do not pay tax… if only that were the case!
Charities benefit enormously from the range of tax incentives on charitable giving, particularly from Gift Aid. What is not often understood is that charities still incur substantial amounts of tax when they spend the money that is generously donated to them.
So while charities benefit from over £1bn of income from Gift Aid, they face costs in excess of £1.5bn in irrecoverable VAT.
As the Voice of Charities on Tax the Charity Tax Group has a proud history of over 40 years supporting the sector to navigate charity tax.
So far, we have saved good causes over £8.3 billion in tax, and by offering informed and relevant guidance, we provide practical support to help charities reduce their tax burden. We offer a platform for charities and other stakeholders to come together and discuss the challenges and issues they face regarding charity tax.
