London based charities – claim your funded one-year membership contribution to the Charity Tax Group!
“Charities don’t pay tax…” If only that was the case. The reality is that they do pay tax and they do face a significant administrative burden when engaging with the tax system. There are also significant tax reliefs that are available to charities to reduce costs and maximise the value of gifts they receive.
The Charity Tax Group (CTG) exists to help charities navigate the tax maze – you can find out more about our recent work here. A volunteer-led organisation it supports charities through regular newsletters, expert insight webinars and an extensive online information hub. CTG has saved the charity sector billions of pounds over its existence through its key role in the development and protection of Gift Aid and important business rates and VAT reliefs. With the future of the economy uncertain and the Government needing to finance the recovery from COVID, the sector needs CTG’s voice more than ever.
To equip charities deal with the key tax issues they face CTG members receive monthly and weekly newsletters. CTG also provides training through its free online expert insight events on charity tax issues of the day. These have included Gift Aid, business rates, VAT, payroll giving and employment taxes. Members can also get involved with our Gift Aid and VAT practical issues working groups. These groups help charity finance professionals share their experiences with their peers.
All charities benefit from CTG’s work. It has saved the sector billions of pounds over the sector over the last 40 years. Charities actively involved in our work recognise its impact. As an example:
“You’ve been our right arm during Covid on anything charity tax and finance related. Your support & engagement is exceptional. I could only dream of creating the speedy concise briefings that you do. Please organisations donate to Charity Tax Group and keep them viable”. Cate Atwater – (then) Chief Executive, Community Leisure UK
But awareness of what CTG offers remains low. This is particularly the case for smaller charities.
CTG operates on a small budget funded by voluntary contributions from charities. Recognising the impact of the pandemic on charities and the value of what CTG does, the City Bridge Trust* has provided funding for CTG to support and represent up to charitable organisations in London on fiscal and tax matters.
As a result, a charity’s first contribution towards CTG’s work (in 2022) will be free – the amount of the contribution will depend on the size of your organisation.
- Income <£1m – £250
- Income £1m-£10m – £500
- Income >£10m – £800
This opportunity is for charities based in London. We believe that after a year of benefiting from the work of CTG, both directly for their charity and for the wider charity sector, they will want to commit to supporting CTG into the future through becoming a member.
To register for your funded membership and access to all CTG’s resources, please complete the form below. This offer is available to charities that have not recently made a financial contribution to CTG’s work.
*The initiative is supported by City Bridge Trust, the funding arm of The City of London Corporation’s charity, Bridge House Estates (1035628).
Following your registration you will be contacted by email with further information.
Don’t just take our word for it!
“As a small charity, obtaining all the information we need to know about Gift Aid can be a minefield. I have been receiving your emails for just under a year and find them very informative, especially as there is no one in the charity to discuss various matters with.” Margaret Lloyd, Trustee, Shropshire Cat Rescue
“The Charity Tax Map [now on the CTG website] is an extraordinary reference document for charities and for policy makers – the tax descriptions are sensationally good” Dave Hartnett CB – Former Permanent Secretary for Tax, HMRC
“My advice to charity clients is invariably: if you only join one membership organisation it should be the CTG: its ethos is excellence; its people and its work product are undoubtedly exceptional. It represents extraordinary value for money.” Janet Turner QC – (then) Head of Not for Profit Solutions, Berwin Leighton Paisner
